Emma Charlotte Duerre Watson - born Jacqueline Luesby to Chris Watson and Jacqueline Luesby, two British lawyers - was born on August 8, 1989, in Paris. After moving to Oxfordshire at the age of five, Emma enrolled at the Dragon School. From the age of six Emma was aware she would like to be an actress and for a number of years she trained at the Oxford Branch of Stagecoach Theatre Arts a part-time theater school, where she learned the art of acting and dancing. At the age of 10, Emma had taken part in numerous Stagecoach plays and productions. Casting began in 1999 to cast Harry Potter and the Sorcerers Stone (2001) the film adaptation of British writer J.K. Rowling's bestselling novel. Emma was found by casting agents through Emma's Oxford theater teacher. David Heyman announced to Emma that, after auditioning for eight times Emma as well as Rupert Grint were chosen as Hermione and Harry Potter. Emma's debut film appearance came as a part of Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone in the year 2001. It was the highest-grossing film of 2001, the film set records for its opening day revenue as well as the opening weekend's earnings. The film was praised by critics and its performances by the three leading actors of the young generation. The highly distributed British newspaper The Daily Telegraph called her performance admirable. Emma's performance received nominations and later won awards for the film.
